Fed Gov’t Data Undercounts Police Killings by 55%

Using MPV and other crowd-sourced data, the study found:

“From 1980 to 2018, the NVSS did not report 17,100 deaths (95% UI 16,600–17,600) out of 30,800 deaths (30,300–31,300) that we estimated, accounting for 55.5% (54.8–56.2) of all police violence deaths from 1980 to 2018.”
